Become a Peer Educator!
VPAS Peer Educators assist the Violence Prevention Coordinators with trainings, workshops, and events across campus. As part of their work, they receive extensive training on topics such as trauma-informed care, bystander intervention, healthy relationships, consent, and gender-based violence prevention. Peer Educators work with students, faculty, and staff across campus, including Greek life, athletic teams, student orgs, academic departments and more!
Peer Educators are student employees and are compensated on an hourly basis. To learn more about our Peer Educator program, check out our FAQs page!
Become an Outreach Ambassador!
Outreach Ambassadors assist the VPAS Team with tabling events, info fairs, social media campaigns, and all other outreach efforts. As part of their work, Ambassadors receive training on how to receive disclosures of sexual or gender-based violence, how to talk about healthy relationships and consent, and how to recommend support resources to UNC community members who have experienced violence.
Ambassadors are student volunteers who can make their own schedules and work flexible hours. To learn more about our Ambassador program, check out our FAQs page!
Join our Gender-Based Violence Prevention Student Advisory Group!
The Gender-Based Violence Prevention Student Advisory Group (SAG) provides VPAS with crucial feedback and guidance on our programming, messaging, and outreach efforts. In addition to attending monthly meetings with the full SAG, members will join specific working groups where they can explore their unique passions and interests, including training and workshop design, social media messaging, research into current violence prevention trends, UNC policy, and more!
SAG members are student volunteers who attend regularly scheduled meetings each month. To learn more about the SAG, check out our FAQs page!
“Working with VPAS has been one of my favorite parts of grad school. I love talking to people about social norms involving gender, sexuality, and sexual expectations. With each training, I gain a new insight that deepens my understanding of this field. Being a VPAS Peer Educator has been incredibly fun and eye-opening!”
Paris (she/her), 1st Year Master of Public Health Student
“I started working with VPAS last fall and, truly, it has been the highlight of my year. Starting the trainings as a Peer Educator was nerve-wracking, but working with Sloan and the other PEs made the transition so fun and easy. I loved being able to hear the comments from my coworkers as well as the training attendees. This experience has been nothing less than fulfilling and healing!”
Michelle (she/her), Junior undergraduate
“As a Peer Educator I learned a lot from the team at VPAS, namely our dedicated supervisors Sloan and Shelley who made our success possible this year! I’ve grown empathetically as a PE, as well as grown professionally as a public speaker and facilitator. This experience has been all around positive and I recommend working with VPAS if you are an individual who wants to make a lasting impact on your community here at Carolina. Seeing fellow students around campus that have attended our trainings is oftentimes familiar and uplifting for us both.”
Mackenzie (she/her), Senior undergraduate
