Raise the Bar

Raise the Bar is an hour-long workshop that educates restaurant and bar staff on how to identify and prevent sexual violence in alcohol-serving establishments around the UNC campus.

The training explores how sexual violence might manifest in public spaces, equips participants with multiple strategies for intervening in potentially violent situations, and helps participants to confront their own biases around what types of patrons would be most likely to perpetrate or experience sexual harm. Raise the Bar also features a skill-building section, where participants discuss several realistic scenarios of sexual violence or harassment and the most appropriate intervention and prevention strategies for those scenarios.

Training Opportunities for Servers and Bartenders

At present, Raise the Bar is offered in conjunction with the Chapel Hill Police Department’s Be A Responsible Server (BARS) training, which focuses on NC alcohol laws and alcohol safety. Trainings are offered on the second Monday of every month at Chapel Hill Police Headquarters on MLK Blvd. Individuals who attend a Raise the Bar/BARS training will receive $30 from the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership!
