Promoting Relationship Violence Awareness Month

October is Relationship Violence Awareness Month, and the UNC Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services (VPAS) team is partnering with Chapel Hill and Carrboro businesses to help share information and resources about violence prevention and response in an engaging way.

To promote awareness for this month, student volunteers from the VPAS Peer Educators and Ambassadors, Undergraduate Student Government, the Violence Prevention Student Advisory Group, along with interns from the Leadership in Violence Prevention class, are putting together 3,000 goodie bags that will be given out by 16 businesses between Oct. 17 and 19.

Each bag will contain information about campus and community support resources for survivors as well as stickers with healthy relationships messaging and branded items from the Orange County Rape Crisis Center, the Compass Center, and the UNC Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office

“We are so excited to be partnering with local businesses to help reach our community where they live and play,” said Sloan Thompson, violence prevention coordinator at UNC-Chapel Hill. “I’ve been thrilled at the response from our community partners who have been very creative and generous in their participation.”

Thompson worked with the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership (CHDP) to help connect with interested partners and promote the givewaway.
